Outfit Post!
Yay! I have new clothes to show you!
Shirt: Brand new from Vanity Fair.
Ruffle Top: old Walmart find that I've worn here before.
Boots: ebay
I forgot to tell everyone on my last post, Sam and I are buying a house! It's a beautiful three-bedroom brick house, with a formal dining room in the front that I'll be using as a library. I've already gotten a couple of chairs and a coffee table for that room, and two desks that we already had, but I'm still looking for bookcases. I can't wait to show you guys pictures! We're supposed to close on September 9th.

Happy Halloween!
YAY! The day is finally here, and we have had a great time at my house. Sam and Zach went Trick-or-Treating and my Mom and I sat outside and handed out candy to appease the little gremlins.
Sam with his new trench coat.
Zach as a Vampire with glow-in-the-dark green fangs.
And me in my neck corset and mini witch's hat.
PVC bat wings!
So this Halloween day marks my handsome husband and I's 2nd wedding anniversary. I'm so excited, and we had a really fun time together. I think we'll be going out to eat together this weekend. I'm so grateful that I've found someone to take this life journey with. I love you Sam.

Outfit Post: The Lady in White
I like to wear a mostly white outfit every now and then to throw people off. This is actually the same outfit I wore on Halloween day last year, and people kept complementing me on my costume.....
Top: skeletal bride and groom, from Walmart last Halloween
Skirt: the white skirt I bought at Goodwill, and added the lace trim myself. All hand-striched, because I have an irrational fear of sewing machines. They make me think I'm going to sew my finger to something.
The skeleton lady cameos you have seen on me before; I thought the pearls and white details were a nice touch to this outfit.
I'm debating on what I want to wear on Halloween day this year. I don't wear costumes, but I do dress up to the nines in whatever I have. What are you guys planning to wear? Do you have any special plans for the day?

Outfit Post
My only Monday class was canceled today, but I still had to drive to campus to exchange a camera that me and another student are sharing for film class. This might seem like I'm whining, but I live almost an hour from my college, so yeah....gas.
Anyway, I liked what I was wearing so I felt good.

Surprise for Zach
Zach spent the night with his grandparents last night, and while I was out today I spotted this and decided to surprise him with it when he gets home tonight.
And why yes I bought myself one just like it. I don't consider the fruits of the child's department beneath me, not when one finds a fantastic treasure like this one.
All hail the spiderweb skull!

Sunday Outfits
Sam and Zach matched today:
Those tuxedo t-shirts we got from Walmart on a Halloween clearance.
Note the cute skull detail:
I didn't go to church this morning because I had massive trouble sleeping last night. Weird dreams and slight case of insomnia. But this is what I would have looked like had I gone:

Friday the 13th Outfit Post
Yes yes I know it is Saturday the 14th, but my internet would not work properly when I got home from work last night. Have I mentioned that I hate Verizon's internet? Friends don't let friends get their fiendish hotspot.
Anyway, this is what I wore.
Anyway, this is what I wore.
Dress: etsy, you guys have seen it before
Cross bone tights: should have gotten a close up of those, I got these at a Halloween clearance sale.
Actually, here is an ebay picture of what they look like:
I paired the outfit with this necklace, bought at Spencer's.
Unfortunately, I had to work last night, so tell me what you guys did for your Friday the 13th so I can live vicariously through you.

Goth Color Blocking
I don't know how many of you keep up with the mainstream and their fashion fads; I don't normally myself save for what I see people wearing on the street, but there is one that a fashion-forward friend of mine wrote an article about in our college newspaper when I was its Editor-in-Chief (this has been a couple of semesters ago) that I rather liked and wanted to try.
It's called color blocking, and basically uses contrasting colors paired together to make a statement. There is an article explaining it more thoroughly here. The overall effect is striking, if not slightly daunting, so I thought there had to be a way of Gothing it up.
So voila, here it is: Goth Color Blocking!
Ok, so it's still mostly black, but I've managed to splash in some purple, green, pink, and yellow.
This top I got from Walmart last Halloween, the skeleton bat necklace is from Spencer's.
Skirt is from Hot Topic, it's Tripp.
Tights are from Walmart, last Halloween as well. Shoes are Iron Fist, from HT I think. No one does high heels like Iron Fist!

But....I am "Normal"!
Have you every had that person who, when you try to explain Goth to them, asks the curious question, "But what do you do?"
Ummm, people things?
Ok, I get it (somewhat), we dress differently than other people do. We're spooky and different, so maybe it is natural to think that we spend our free time in graveyards communing with the dead, or building coffin-shaped beds in which to sleep, or cooking in large cauldrons instead of on a stove. The reality is that, no, we just go to the grocery store and get ice cream and then go home and watch TV.
While it would be more exciting to led some sort of extraordinary life when one decides to be a Goth, we really are regular people just like you, we just do a lot of shopping around Halloween.

Outfit post
This post was supposed to be for sophistique noir's Red & Black week, but I somehow missed it, but I like the picture anyway so here it is:
Bloody top: hot topic
Skull necklace (with a little red rose: Claire's
Devil voodoo doll earrings: hot topic.
Yes, once upon a time I did a lot of shopping at Hot Topic, when the store actually had things that I wanted. I've had that top for a few years; the last couple of years I've bought almost everything from Goodwill or some other thrift store. Or of course Halloween clarence sales......

On being a Goth Mom
Sorry for the recent lack of posts, we've had a busy few days.
Since I became a mother, I've had a few instances of people (family especially) being a little critical of my dress and the way I dress my child. I don;t quite understand where the idea that Goths cannot make good parents comes from, but I suppose it's something to do with the ramped media fueled bad stereotyping or something.
My biggest complaint is when people assume that I'm making Zach dress like me. This usually comes from a soccer mom with a little girl that is in a matching outfit. Yes, I tend to buy Zach's t-shits during Halloween, and even when it's not during the spooky season he gets things with skulls and the like on them, but what people don't realize is that he picks out his own clothes. He chooses what we buy and what he wears everyday. I'm not forcing him into anything.
Now it is true that he probably goes for what he sees his father and me wearing, and he might decide when he gets older that he doesn't want to dress spooky anymore, and I'm perfectly ok with that. He is his own person, and he has the right to express himself in whatever way he wants.
I do have a few worries that perhaps other 'normal' (I hate that word) parents don't have to think about. What if he begins to be made fun of in school? I know that most kids get picked on regardless of what they wear, but will that make him wary of wearing what he likes because of the opinions of others? I've tried to impress upon him that he should wear and do what he wants no matter what other people think.
My other worry is that he will be made fun of because of the way his father and I look. Kids are cruel creatures, and I'm afraid of what will be said to him when his mother shows up to PTA looking like Morticia Addams.
In the end all of my anxiety comes down to teaching my son to appreciate all kinds of beauty, not just the pretty pink pastel world of endless happiness that we are taught to live in. I think I'm raising him to be accepting and empathetic, which surly will quell the nastiness of other people.

Me and my gremlin. I didn't realize he had picked out a shirt that looked like mine until after the picture was taken.

World Goth Day Photoshoot
Hello darkings! I've been watching my page views quite obsessively and am delighted to see people actually reading what I have to say, it's great! I think my husband is laughing at me because of my giddiness, but oh well....
Our World Goth Day went very well, considering it couldn't really start until Sam arrived home from work, but we did stroll about the graveyard a bit before we went out to dinner. As promised, I have pictures:

This is my beloved husband, Sam. Forgive the flash burn, he is a wielder. Isn't he handsome in his top hat and cane?
What I'm wearing:
Zombie Marilyn Monroe top: Hot Topic
Skirt: Ross
Parasol: ebay
necklace: Spencer's
Lacey arm things: gift from Sam
Coffin handbag: ebay
You'll notice that I do a lot of ebay shopping, that's because I'm broke and thrifty; I also buy a great amount of cloths from Goodwill.
We spent the night being as stereotypically Goth as possible. When we finished dinner, we bought some cherry flavored cloves, and then went home and watched Rocky Horror Picture Show on DVD and got drunk. It was great!
What did you guys do to celebrate how great we are?

Halloween Goth?
So you might have noticed that I describe myself as a Victorian/Halloween Goth in my profile. What in the underworld do I mean when I say "Halloween Goth," you may ask? Allow me to explain.
I've seen many Goths (ok, online Goths, but whatever) invent their own names for their personal interpretation of Goth fashion. I've never really seen a subset that described me accurately. Victorian comes close, but not entirely.
So! Halloween Goth; my definition would be 'one who revels in Halloween imagery in fashion and other aspects (home decor, etc) on a daily basis.'
Now I know that Halloween is held dear to most Goths. I say most because I've seen some write rather venomously on the subject, saying that it too cheesy or what have you. Most Goths do revel in Halloween imagery to a vast extent, with the wearing of skulls and spiders and bats and such. What I'm saying is that my use of Halloween images mounts almost to an obsession.
Am I serious? Partly.
I know it sounds ridiculous, and that I probably sound more of a newbie than I intend, but if we can't laugh at ourselves for dressing to the nines in jack-o-lantern-themed goodies and calling it "fashion" then we all might as well give up an respect for this subculture and go back to the mainstream right now. Self-procalimed style monikers don't have to be entirely serious.
So what do you get when you pair flowing lacy skirts with Halloween t-shirts purchased in Walmart clearance sales? Behold the Victorian/Halloween Goth!
